Jaipur

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state, is often addressed as Pink City and is a part of the Popular Golden Triangle Tour of India. Vivacity and grandeur are two words that are very close to defining Jaipur. Forts and palaces built by erstwhile rulers of the area are a testimony of their power and their architectural intellect. Nooks and streets sparkle with traditional and vivid handloom, costume, jewelry and other Knicks and knacks. Owing to its splendor, Jaipur has emerged as a hotspot for wedding destination in India and some of India’s best luxury and heritage hotels.

History
Jaipur was founded by Jai Singh II in 1727. The king shifted his capital from Dausa (51 km away from Jaipur) to Jaipur, due to scarcity of water and increase in population. The city was built as per the principles of Vastu Shastra under the architectural guidance of Chief Architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya.

The construction of Jaipur city was initiated in 1727 and it took about four years for the completion of major palaces, squares and roads. The city was then divided into 9 blocks, of which 2 contained state palaces and buildings and the remaining 7 were allotted for public. During that time, to welcome the Prince of Wales, Edward, the whole city was painted pink and this is why Jaipur is often called the Pink City.
